Where is the toilet?!?

The bathroom floor was ankle deep with toilet water. A barbie leg and bits of toilet glass floated around my feet. I stood next to my older brother, Damien, who was about 13 at the time. Both of us had freshly soaked clothes and wide eyes as we took our first glance at we had just created. Before us laid a battered, warped and bent piece of glass. my head was flooded with thoughts but there was one that was ringing in my head. How cold this small barbie do this to our toilet?
“We will be home at five, OK. Don’t touch the basket on the fridge and please Damien, PLEASE watch Mia, make sure she is safe and doesn't get into any trouble” this was the third time mom reminded my brother what to do while they were at work.
“Ya mom i know what to do, know go or you’re going to be late” Damien laugheDThe roar of the engine as our truck pulled out blasted my little 5 year old ears. We plopped down and waited five minutes so we know that they were not coming back for any reason. Finally Damien turned my with a wicked grin and i knew what was to come. We leaped up and sprinted through the house looking for hat we loved the most.......... Barbies
Damien and I had the weird hobby on seeing how much damage a barbie could take. We had design different levels the barbies had to go through. To this day i have no idea why we did this. But i have to admit it was quite fun.
Round 1 was the fire round. We collected 10 barbies and lit each one on fire and waited for ten minutes. We watched as there hair burned and skin melted leaving a plastic stench in the air. Most of the barbies exploded within the ten minutes but we doused the fire on the ones that lasted.
Round 2 was the speed test. We gathered up all the barbies that were left which was about half and strolled to our neighbors house. he answered the door took one look and grabbed his keys. He took us to the same dirt road he always did. His foot slammed on the gas and the car jolted forwarded. The speedometer was pushing a hundred mph as we rolled down the window and threw each barbie out. Only three survived.
Round 3 the Explosives. We got home and my brother carefully gathered the small fire crackers and the steak knife we needed. He went outside and I followed like a puppy. He carefully slit into each barbies stomach and crammed in the small fire cracker. I got to lite them all, as i lit the last one I sprinted to the  little bomb shelter Damien and I created. I heard three snaps and ran back expecting three destroyed barbies. through the smoke i saw on barbie completely unharmed.
I glanced up ant my brother looking confused. We never got this far before, we  had nothing planned. We trudged inside feeling defeat when i got the most brilliant idea ever. I gasped loudly and launched my 5 year old body up the stairs, Damien close behind wondering what i was doing.
I halted in front of the toilet and smiled broadly “lets flush her!” I yelped to Damien. His grin broadened and i felt a tingle in my tummy. I dropped the doll in the toilet and pressed hard on
the smooth, hard handle. The toilet gurgled and moaned as the barbie fit perfectly down the drain, to my surprise.
Everything froze. The ground started to vibrate softly and I heard creaks and cracking from the toilet. My stomached dropped and my skin went cold as I leaned in and tried to figure out what the source of the noise was. It sounded like the toilet was being ripped apart piece by piece from
the inside. My eyes fell on the water it was waving but not up and down ripples. It was in and out bulges. What could possible be wrong.
BAM!!!!!! I was thrown to the ground by a tremendous amount of pressure. I gasped for air but all I got was mouth fulls of water. My ears were ringing from the the deaf defying noise and vision blurred from tons of water.. I couldn't move all i could do was think, I asked my self countless question non i knew the answer. I finally blinked back the water and saw my brother over me. He was screaming my name over and over again.
He helped me to my feet and gave me a quick questionnaire which hale the words I had no idea what meant. What, did he think I was a big girl all of the sudden. That's when my eyes fell on the toilet, it was a wreck! It had been busted and torn things were poking out that I didn't even know what they were.
I sat down in the water and just cried, filled with fear. What would  my parents think of this. There was no way out of this mess. Damien cam over and picked me up. He wiped my tears and told me it was clean up time. We spent of the rest of the day cleaning, mopping and draining the water. As soon as we put the last thing away our parents got home. still sopping wet we walked up to them.
Damien blurted all of the sudden “It is all my fault don't blame Mia”
After that big words were talked and I didn't understand any of it. All i knew is something was different. I didn't get punished but my brother did. Which was a flip, I was usually the one in trouble. My brother usually sold me out in a heart beat.
To this day I have never forgot those feelings. The feeling of utter fear and terror and the feeling of love. My relationship with my brother isnt the best but no matter how big of fight we are in II always remember that day and I know for a fact that he always will cares for me and will always have my back.

  1. I love that you wrote this story. It's funny and it's got heart. I'll definitely be sharing it with next year's 8th Graders if I do memoir again. Again, nice writing, Mia.
